Written by Stephen (The Puma Blues) Murphy and drawn by John Rovnak

It began as a joke.
Friend John Rovnak sent friend Steve Murphy a comment made by stranger Ed Piskor as part of Ed’s podcast “review” of a pack of mini-comics published by Mirage Studios in the early 1990s. Steve authored several of them, both under his real name and that of his primary pseudonym of Dean Clarrain (although Ed may not have known about Dean being Steve). At any rate, two of Steve’s mini-comics were serious in tone, being creative statements concerning environmental degradation, which evoked this response from Ed: “That Steve Murphy dude is the opposite of fun….”
John then challenged Steve to create and write a fun, if not funny, mini-comic (even though there’s no law stating that minis can’t be serious!) that John in turn would draw. After a quick exchange of emails, the two David Bowie fans came up with the title, and not long after Steve sent John the script to the first 8-page mini.
Plot-wise, the story seems to follow this guy who rockets his way home across some sort of futuristic desert landscape strewn with old comic books. Arriving home, our hero sets out to work organizing and bagging and boarding part of his comic book collection, while questioning the roots of his comic book collecting mania via talking with Stan the Non-Man, his house A.I., and later during a “deep memory probing” session with Doc Oc, the house shrink.
It’s fun (really). It’s funky. It’s Fun To Funky, the mini-comic for and about comic book collecting!
